Helpful tips
- Live closer to the hospital if possible
- Have a support system
- Adapt a work-life balance
- Don’t forget to eat/sleep/exercise regularly – Create a schedule that works for you
- It is okay to feel incompetent during the first few months, take a break, and reflect on how you can do better. You can always talk to your PD, co-residents, chief resident, etc. Never blame/pity/give up on yourself!
- Do not let anybody make you feel less or inferior. There will be frustrated attendings, specialists, senior residents, etc. Carry on and tomorrow is a better day
- Always connect with the ones you love, your family and friends
- Learn something new every day. “The day you stop learning is the day you stop growing”
- Enjoy every day, the good and the bad. Even on the worst days, I am living the dream =)
